Gerdes, a former federal and state prosecutor who until recently served in the U.S. attorney\u2019s office in Brooklyn. \u201cThat\u2019s why not only did the government ask for an attorney to be appointed, the judge in fact agreed that was appropriate. And now this juror has decided to just retain their own attorney.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerdes said the legal issues at play in Maxwell\u2019s case stand out. \u201cMost of these motions [for a new trial] are dismissed out of hand.
