Stuart will practice with the firm\u2019s national corporate department. He joins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dinsmore.com\/news\/dinsmore-adds-united-states-attorney-to-litigation-group-names-new-lexington-office-managing-partner\/\">new Lexington partner Rob Duncan<\/a> as the second former federal prosecutor to migrate to Dinsmore in less than a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a return to the private sector for Stuart, who spent the past three-plus years as the presidentially nominated and Senate-confirmed United States attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia. Prior to his public service, Stuart spent more than a decade co-leading Steptoe &amp; Johnson PLLC\u2019s corporate services and tax practice group, during which time he worked on several multi-billion-dollar M&amp;A and securities transactions and helped the firm grow tremendously across multiple states. Fortunately, elected officials in West Virginia trust me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In deciding to return to the private sector, Stuart had his choice of firms, but he selected Dinsmore for the quality and momentum of its national offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI could have gone to a smaller firm, but I\u2019ll be more valuable here alongside the breadth, depth and scope of Dinsmore\u2019s attorneys,\u201d Stuart said. \u201cDinsmore has a spirit of entrepreneurship and changes with the world rather than remaining stagnant. The firm looks at opportunities in the market to help transform and move clients\u2019 businesses forward in this incredibly fast-paced, ever-changing global environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charleston Office Managing Partner Ashley Pack sees great potential in Stuart\u2019s arrival at Dinsmore as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dinsmore.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/srl-crops\/Pack-Ashley_Circle-2019.srl-crop-1.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDinsmore has built and continues to expand its impressive platform both in West Virginia and across the country,\u201d Pack said. \u201cAdding two former United States attorneys, including one as skilled and experienced as Mike, who has such excellent relationships throughout our state, will be incredibly beneficial for our clients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Department of Justice, Stuart \u201crebuilt the entire operation\u201d for Southern West Virginia and led the prosecution of two West Virginia Supreme Court justices. He also led and directed the state\u2019s largest-ever elder fraud, anti-drug and violent crime operations, the latter of which included more than 200 law enforcement officials and 50 National Guard personnel investigating nearly 100 suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stuart credits his time in public service for his passion to help end the national opioid epidemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery day, I hold in my wallet the photos of people from West Virginia who have been victims to this crisis,\u201d he said. \u201cAs their United States attorney, I went to their funerals and mourned with their families.
